YouTube Handle Checker
Check whether a YouTube @handle is available or already taken, and see which channel owns it.
Check a YouTube handle
We ask YouTube for youtube.com/@handle right now. Available means no channel uses it this moment; it is not reserved for you.
What the YouTube Handle Checker does
A YouTube handle is the @name that appears under a channel's title, in comments, in mentions and in the channel's short URL, youtube.com/@name. Every channel has one, each handle is unique across YouTube, and the good ones went fast when handles launched in 2022. Before you print a handle on a thumbnail template, a business card or a video intro, confirm it is actually free.
This checker requests youtube.com/@yourhandle from our server. YouTube answers 404 for a handle nobody uses and a normal channel page for one that is taken, in which case the tool shows the channel's title, its canonical channel ID and the handle in the owner's own capitalisation. The check is live, so the answer reflects this moment, not a cached list.
Handles follow fixed rules: 3 to 30 characters, letters, numbers, periods, underscores and hyphens, no spaces and nothing else. The tool validates the format before asking YouTube, and accepts the handle with or without the @ or as a full youtube.com/@ link. Available means you can claim it in YouTube Studio right now; it does not reserve the name.
Step by step
- 01Type the handle you want, with or without the @ sign.
- 02Click Check handle. The tool asks YouTube directly, which takes a second or two.
- 03If it is taken, look at the owning channel to decide whether a variation (a suffix, a dot, your city) is worth it.
- 04If it is available, open YouTube Studio, Customization, Basic info, and set the handle before someone else does.
Common questions
No. @MarketersPK and @marketerspk are the same handle, and YouTube shows it in the capitalisation the owner chose. The tool matches regardless of case and displays the owner's spelling when the handle is taken.
YouTube allows a handle change twice every 14 days. When you change it, the old handle becomes available to others after a short period, so do not swap handles casually on an established channel; links in old descriptions and on social profiles stop working.
Some names are reserved, hold a trademark YouTube protects, or are blocked because they resemble an existing brand or contain restricted words. A handle can also be in a cooling-off period after its previous owner released it. The tool can only see whether a channel page exists at the address.
No. The channel name is the display title and does not have to be unique. The custom URL (youtube.com/c/Name) was the older system and now redirects to the handle. The channel ID (UC followed by 22 characters) never changes and is what the tool shows as the canonical address of a taken handle.
