(01) About this tool

What the Username Checker does

Picking a brand or creator name is easier when the same handle is free everywhere. A customer who finds @yourbrand on Instagram expects it on TikTok, X and YouTube too, and a name that exists on one platform but belongs to a stranger on another costs you followers and, occasionally, your reputation. Checking twelve sites by hand means twelve tabs; this tool does it in one pass.

For each platform the tool requests the public profile address a visitor would open, such as instagram.com/name or github.com/name, from our server. A 404 means nobody has the name and it is reported as available. A profile page means it is taken. Several platforms answer every address with the same page or block automated requests; for those the tool reads known markers in the page (TikTok's "Couldn't find this account", Twitch's page title, Telegram's profile block) and, when there is no clear signal, says unknown and gives you the link to check by hand.

The list covers Instagram, X, TikTok, GitHub, Reddit, Pinterest, YouTube handles, Twitch, Medium, Dev.to, Telegram and Facebook. Each request has a four-second limit and the whole run stops after about fourteen seconds, so a slow platform cannot hold up the others. Available means available right now; the tool does not reserve anything, so register the name on the platforms you care about promptly.

(02) How to use

Step by step

  1. 01Type the username without the @ sign. Letters, numbers, periods, underscores and hyphens are accepted.
  2. 02Click Check username. Twelve platforms are checked one after another, which takes several seconds.
  3. 03Read the three columns: available, taken and unknown. Click a platform name to open the profile address yourself.
  4. 04For "unknown" rows, open the link; those platforms block automated checks and only a browser visit settles it.
  5. 05Register the name on the platforms where it is free, even the ones you will not use immediately.
(03) FAQ

Common questions

Both serve a login page to any visitor that is not signed in and looks automated, and that page is identical whether the profile exists or not. The tool refuses to guess. Open the link in your own browser; the answer is immediate there.

Usually. It means no public profile exists at that address right now. Platforms also reserve words, block names that imitate brands, and hold recently deleted names for a while, so an available name can still be refused at sign-up. Platform rules on length and characters differ too: X allows 15 characters, Instagram 30, GitHub 39.

Each platform sets its own: Instagram allows periods, X does not; TikTok does not allow hyphens; GitHub allows hyphens but not periods or underscores; Reddit names are case-insensitive but keep their original case in URLs. The tool accepts letters, numbers, periods, underscores and hyphens and lets each platform answer for itself.

The tool opens the same public profile address a browser would, once per check, and stores nothing. That is ordinary use of a public page. Platforms that do not want automated visits answer with a block, and the tool reports that honestly as unknown instead of working around it.
