YouTube Video Tags Extractor
See the hidden tags of any YouTube video, with its title, channel, thumbnail and description, from a link or ID.
Extract a video's tags
Paste a watch, youtu.be or Shorts link, or the 11-character ID. The page is read from our server; private videos cannot be read.
What the YouTube Video Tags Extractor does
YouTube stopped showing video tags on the watch page years ago, but it still writes them into the page's HTML as a keywords meta tag, where anyone who views the source can read them. Looking at the tags of videos that already rank for your topic tells you which phrases their creators chose, which alternate names and spellings they covered and how they describe their niche. It is competitor research in thirty seconds.
Paste a link or an ID and the tool fetches the watch page the way a browser does, reads the keywords meta tag and, when that tag is missing, falls back to the keyword list inside the player data. Alongside the tags it shows the title, channel, thumbnail, description, view count, publish date and length, so you have the whole metadata picture of the video in one place. Tags are returned as a list and as a comma-joined string you can copy.
Copying another creator's tags wholesale is not the point and does not work: YouTube ranks on watch time and click-through, and tags are a minor signal. The value is in learning the vocabulary of a niche, spotting phrases you had not thought of, and checking your own uploads to confirm the tags you set are really there.
Step by step
- 01Paste the video link: a normal watch URL, a youtu.be short link, a Shorts link or the bare 11-character ID.
- 02Click Extract tags. The page is fetched from our server, so private videos cannot be read.
- 03Read the tag list and the count. Click a tag to copy it, or copy the whole comma-joined string.
- 04Compare the tags with the title and description to see which phrases the creator is targeting.
Common questions
Many creators leave the tag box empty, and large channels increasingly do so because tags matter little. YouTube then writes no keywords tag into the page. The tool reports zero tags; it does not guess. Videos that are private, deleted or age-restricted cannot be read at all and return a clear error.
The tags are in the public HTML of every watch page; anyone can read them with View Source. The tool reads one page per request, the same as a browser, and stores nothing. Use the information to understand a niche, not to copy a competitor's metadata into unrelated videos, which violates YouTube's policy on misleading metadata.
Very little. YouTube's own guidance says tags have a minimal role and help mainly with misspellings. Title, thumbnail, description, captions and above all audience retention decide where a video ranks. Tags are worth a minute of your time, not more.
Yes. Shorts links (youtube.com/shorts/ID) and live links (youtube.com/live/ID) share the same watch page structure, so the tags, title and channel are read the same way. Playlists and channel pages have no tags and are not accepted.
