Image Compressor

Compress and resize JPEG, PNG and WebP images in your browser; nothing is uploaded, download them one by one or all.

Compress images

Everything happens in your browser: the files are decoded, resized on a canvas and re-encoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded to our server.

Drop images here or click to pickJPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF. Several at once is fine.

After—

Add images to see each one's size before and after, a preview and a download button. A result that is larger than the original (shown in amber) usually means a PNG that should stay PNG or a photo that was already compressed hard.

(01) About this tool

What the Image Compressor does

Images are the largest part of most pages, and a photo straight from a phone or a stock site is far bigger than any layout needs: 4000 pixels wide and several megabytes where 1200 pixels and 150 KB would look the same. This compressor runs entirely in your browser. It decodes each file, draws it onto a canvas at the size you choose and encodes it again at the quality you set, in the same format or as JPEG, WebP or PNG. The files never leave your device.

Drop in one image or a batch. For each one you see the original and compressed sizes, the saving and a preview, with a download button per image and one to download them all. The quality slider is the main control: 75 to 85 is the usual range for photos, where the artefacts are invisible at normal zoom and the file is a fraction of the original. The maximum width and height cap the dimensions without changing the aspect ratio; images smaller than the cap are not enlarged.

WebP gives the smallest files and every current browser displays it. Keep PNG for screenshots with text and for images that need transparency, or choose WebP, which keeps transparency too. Because the browser does the encoding, the result is deterministic and private, and large batches are only limited by your device's memory.

(02) How to use

Step by step

  1. 01Drop images onto the panel or pick them with the file button. Several at once is fine.
  2. 02Set the quality (80 is a good start) and, if the layout never shows the image above a certain width, set the maximum width.
  3. 03Pick the output format: same as the source, JPEG for photos without transparency, WebP for the smallest files, PNG for lossless.
  4. 04Compare the before and after sizes and open the preview to check the result.
  5. 05Download each image or use "download all".
(03) FAQ

Common questions

No. The page reads the files with the browser's File API, draws them on a canvas and encodes the result with the canvas toBlob method. There is no request to our server; you can disconnect from the network after the page has loaded and it still works.

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect on it and the browser encoder is not tuned for size. Resizing a PNG still helps, and converting a photo saved as PNG to WebP or JPEG usually cuts it by 80 percent or more. Keep PNG only for sharp graphics and transparency where WebP is not an option.

No. Re-encoding through a canvas drops the metadata: camera model, GPS location and the rest. For web images that is usually a privacy gain. The browser applies the orientation tag before drawing, so rotated phone photos come out upright.

For photos, 80 in JPEG or WebP is hard to tell from the original and typically a quarter of the size. Go to 70 for large hero images where the saving matters more, and up to 90 for product shots where fine detail sells. Compare at 100 percent zoom rather than in the small preview before deciding.
